VETO - Animal welfare with Canina®

Canina® supports VETO (Europe's voice for animal welfare)

Millions of dogs and cats live on the streets in Europe. Together with animal welfare organizations, partners and animal rights activists, VETO is fighting for homeless animals and is calling for food donations from July 28, 2022 to September 8, 2022 for the "Strong for street animals" campaign.

It is estimated that several million dogs and cats live on the streets in Europe. Life here involves dangers such as hunger, violence and the weather, to which the animals are exposed. Their lives are often determined by fear, as people too often do not treat street animals with respect, scare them away or even mistreat them. In many countries such as Romania or Hungary, the problem is solved with inhumane solutions such as killing stations or unscrupulous animal trappers. Animal welfare activists get involved locally and take in animals in need of help from the streets or rescue them from killing centers. They provide them with food, treat illnesses, neuter the animals, place them with people or release them in a safe place and then feed them at feeding stations.

One major problem is that unneutered animals produce unwanted offspring and thus increase the population. This happens due to a lack of education, poverty and a different understanding of animal husbandry. The problem of such a high number of stray dogs and street cats is therefore caused by humans. Neutering programs are the solution. The food donations via VETO also support associations that work and proceed according to the 'trap-neuter-return' principle. This involves neutering street animals and then releasing and caring for them in safe places in their territory. The organizations also neuter animals that have found a home free of charge. This humane and responsible method works because it reduces the number of street animals without creating new misery.

VETO calls on people to donate food and raise awareness for the protection of stray animals to help free-roaming dogs and cats cope with their everyday lives. Their aim is to ensure that street animals can live in dignity and respect. In addition, each association receives financial support through this campaign, which can be invested in educational projects and neutering. In this way, every donation helps to promote animal welfare in Europe and reduce suffering for dogs and cats in the long term. "If we don't change something today, tomorrow will be the same as yesterday!" says Friends for Life Germany e. V., one of the nine animal welfare organizations that benefit from VETO's fundraising campaign. "Animals can't speak for themselves, so we have to stand up for them."

VETO stands for comprehensive animal welfare and acts as a mouthpiece for dogs and cats in public. Educational work is indispensable here. You can find out more about the campaign here: www.veto-tierschutz.de/stark-fuer-strassentiere.
